true - I never go down ferry rd, it's a killing zone

however have you noticed the 'inspired' cycle management they're trying to bring in where port hills rd passes under the motorway - they now expect all cyclists to go up onto the footpath etc.....presumably to stop issues with how narrow those lanes
are.

I'll just be carrying on taking the whole lane and making traffic wait I think

Yeah i did notice that. What a shambles. A cyclist clearly did not come up with that design. Pisses me off actually....

I think you'll find that it (like the equally dumb-ass lanes on tennyson st) were thought up by someone focussed entirely on 'getting kids to school safely' (cos they sort of make sense for young kids) and they weren't even thinking about someone pulling 40km/h on a road bike

since the 2004 land transport safety ammendments makes it specificially OK for a cyclist to ignore a marked cycle lane where using it would be 'dangerous or unsuitable' I feel quite happy ignoring the sign :D

If you want to see 'well designed' cycle lanes, you should see the two 45 degree turns you have to take within 10 metres if you want to stay in the lane at the intersection of Curletts and Main South Road just before Yaldhurst Road. I think Zorro is on the design planning team.

If this is the situation, then it really is not his fault, but I could see how it could happen.

I agree. Ferry Road is a scary place on a bike.

Sounds like that exactly what happened. Mate at work his wife watched whole thing happen she was first on scene, knocked out and broke his collar bone I think. Its hard when someone waves you through when you dont know if they have looked in their rear view mirror for us cyclists.

Agreed - he's like Chuck Norris, but a bit harder

And its not the first time thats happened in exactly that spot. Last person also had a broken collarbone and the woman driving thought (and still thinks) she did nothing wrong because she didnt see the cyclist. :eh:

They're putting traffic lights in on the causeway where Mt Pleasant road enters too. That'll be a big "improvement"! :(

I can't remember the last time I rode down Ferry Road. It's the suxxor.

I bet you're right- that happens to me all the time there. I liken riding Ferry Road to riding "The Gauntlet"

They truly are idiots in Dunedin. The glass in North Dunedin is just plain shithouse.
The narrow roads of Dunedin's 'inspired' town planning don't help things though.
