Dont you have some sort of event/ceremony to be at down Otago way around that time? I dont know, brake burner or some OTHER type of thing? ;)

Pfft... like I bother to check calendars before dreaming dreams about biking...

I hate to be the spoiler of biking dreams :(

I've already worked out that it'd be doable if I did it in 7 days. :paranoid:

Times under 4 days will be recorded as 4 days, 0 hours. (We're not after an exercise in sleep deprivation).
will there goes any challenge for the like of "X to the Y"

He can still ride it as fast as he can. And I'm sure nobody will be prevented from reporting their own time.

SICK! I've ridden a good few of those tracks, holy shit I hope I can get along to this! How do the rules work, can I buy stuff at shops and/or pick things up from baches in useful locations?

I would imagine you can buy stuff along the way, check into a motel along the way, but I don't think you would be able to pick things up from baches - that would be outside help that is not available to everyone.

True, just know of one in Hanmer and one in St Aranaud that could be potentially useful, gotta keep it fair though. This event sounds awesome, was thinking of doing something a little like this on my own anyways, now there's an event with the best route marked out already

The challenge for 'X to the Y' will be to do the awesome big miles he normally does, but without a support crew ready to pass him a gel every 30-40 minutes. Doing the navigation and carrying your own food & gear slows things down a tad.

It's about 800km between bike shops (from Nelson to Hanmer) - something to think about when packing your repair kit :)

this is true. a warm up for the divide ride maybe? are you riding it Simon?

I have the bike for this event. something to consider seen the amount of roads in the course.

iv been doing a few road epics with no support, so not totally soft.

you dont need a tent or sleeping bag if you dont sleep = less gear. i wont be staying in motels unless i win lotto.

How is entry done? just register your interest?

Yes on both counts. ride down was a blast (370km). back was lame, got a few short rides otherwise I could have taken an age.

LOL! I was just taking the piss when I suggested you were on a ride, but frankly, I'm not that surprised that I was right! :D

I met you at SS Nats last year, and chatted for a bit, but was a little uncertain to see you out of place. You were sitting having a feed with your road bike beside you. How long were you out for?
