Not sure what is the proper treatment for munted achillies. Anyone? Its the first time I have ever had anything like it. Not sure of the cause. Longer days? Enforced SSing?

Mate, Ive never seen anyone push so hard for so long. I can't believe you kept coming back like Elvis when we thought due to your various mechanicals you were gone for all money. I guessing something had to give. Look after yourself eh!

It was just too far to go, to pull out if there was any kind of chance of finishing eh. No regrets : )

Thought I might jump on the blogging bandwagon, to share, and to remind me of the pain should I ever start thinking about doing one again!

All the pics up and words for days 1 to 5, days 6 to 9 to follow...

mfw wrote:Been pondering what a singletrack Brevet option could look like, with as much singletrack as possible using road linking sections, and adding a transport leg to remove the constraint of returning to the start point.

A top of South option could look something like this:

=} Water taxi from Picton to Ship Cove.
=} Queen Charlotte walkway Ship Cove > Anakiwa
=} Nydia track to Duncan Bay
=} Manguatapu
=} [Add in reverse Coppermine here if you want to be nasty]
=} Nelson
=} Great taste trail / Ruby bay to Motueka
=} Takaka hill, Canaan Downs > Rameka tracks
=} Takaka > Collingwood
=} Heaphy > Karamea

Or possibly in reverse, helicopter from Picton to Karamea to start(I know a guy who can organise this relatively cheaply) and return to Picton.

Footnote: Just putting it out there, not signing up or anything!

I'm no SimonK though so it will probably never happen...

Sounds awesome as a touring route, especially when Old Ghost Road is complete (its been in the back of my head for a while)... but Heaphy has a limited season (for good reason) and as a National Park, shared with walkers I'm not sure DOC would appreciate 50-100 riders in a reasonable hurry. Probably similar on QC, although that is not a "great walk" and is not subject to National Park plans.
