Introducing Bike Pure

Postby Melissa_Theuriau on Fri 21/Nov/08 11:47am

Bike-Pure is an umbrella organisation for riders, teams and supporters taking a stand against doping in cycle sport.

Mission: Bike-Pure aim to restore the integrity of professional cycling, on and off road.

Cyclists worldwide deserve heroes they can believe in.The supporters want a clean sport and the riders need their credibility back.

WHO:
Bike-Pure are an independent, not-for-profit cycling organisation, committed to redirecting trust to professional cycle sport.
Bike-Pure are the face and the voice of cycle fans, worldwide.

WHY:
Cycle racing has had a problem for decades with endemic drug use. Cheats annually being exposed has reduced the public image of cycling to tatters and disappointed the supporters. Although the sport is cleaning up, still some riders cheat using artificial, performance enhancing methods. Not good enough. Clean up or clear out. We desire a truly clean sport, with real riders that the fans, sponsors and media can have faith in.

HOW:
Bike-Pure shall encourage the athletes and teams to sign an ‘honour code’, declaring that they race clean, without performance enhancing drugs and with a code of conduct that will encourage our sport to flourish. If any rider should be caught, Bike-Pure encourages the introduction of a Life ban from cycle sport. We believe it is only through the adoption of a stiffer penalty that riders will think twice about doping.

Through these actions riders are held responsible for their own behavior, their sponsors can have faith that their investment is safe, and the public can have confidence in the results.

I reckon they're gonna have some issues with credibility/transparency with the UCI involvement. The fox is guarding the henhouse. Nice sentiment, though.
