I can think of a couple of races I've been at that could easily be about 5 minutes of coverage if you only showed the action! :D

SBS over here produce coverage of most of the national road series. To be honest I don't think it is worth their while doing it. While I might give a shite about who wins the Grafton-Inverell, Goulburn-Liverpool and Melbourne-Warrnambool ect . Mostly because members of my family have rode in them and placed in most. I can remember driving in the convoy driving my mother insane by saying "can't we just go to the range so I can hit golf balls" .
Even though SBS is not one of the major players in Australian TV they do a lot of european content and cycling is one of those.

True Oli although Phil Anderson did create the interest in the tour for most Australians during his Peugeot days.

Yes one good thing is that SBS is a free to air station so I do not have to pay for Sky to watch cycling. But no not because of all the Iti-stralians, its because they want to see Australians winning European races. When the kiwis start getting top results in the pro tour I'm sure the sponsors will come to the party in New Zealand too, and coverage has been increasing each year.

As for road versus track, I wish people would stop treating them like they are different sports. They are the same F-ing sport!

I wish I had the documentry Phil Anderson did years ago about him racing. I think it was called 28 days in July.
I remember watching that over and over again when I was winning all my Mini Midget titles  in the late 70's

The same sport you say Bicyclegod. Tell that to Theo Boss and Benny Kirsten who have had to convert to road because there is no money in track

Bos wanted to ride the road! He said the track didn't motivate him any more...although he's going back on the track for London.

And I was kidding about the Italians, BG. ;)

Might be a good time to race track with all the guns taking a break to ride for pro teams

As was I for Theo and Benny ;)

Benny has had to loose 15kgs of muscle in the last year to even compete on the road.
Just to let you know Oli. Benny is a Kiama boy too
