Karapoti Celebrates Three Decades!
Three decades ago mountain biking was a new fringe sport. There were only a couple of bike brands available and any races had been nothing more than a gathering of a few mates. Until one day late in the summer of 1986, when Wellington cycling enthusiast Paul Kennett sent 45 hardy souls into Upper Hutt’s Akatarawa Ranges. On March 7th he’ll do it again as guest starter for the 30th anniversary of what is now the Southern Hemisphere’s longest running mountain bike event.

The project is the brain child of Destination Great Lake Taupo (DGLT), and is the result of close collaboration between DGLT, DOC, Bike Taupo and a number of tourism operators who have a direct involvement with the use of the trails.

Anton Cooper and Rosara Joseph win Urge 3 Peaks Enduro
Anton Cooper and Rosara Joseph prove too good at the Urge 3 Peaks Enduro staged in Dunedin, New Zealand, at the weekend. Threatening weather dampened the tops of Signal Hill for the final two stages today, but beneath the trees the steep tracks remained in optimum condition for racing.

Anton Cooper and Rosara Joseph lead after day one
It was all about clean runs at the opening day of the Urge 3 Peaks Enduro held in Dunedin, New Zealand, today, and very few riders had one. More than 200 riders started from the Bull Pen this morning, but in the end it was Anton Cooper who stepped to the front in the men's and Rosara Joseph in the women's.
