Good move, Schmoo. Running your own business is a big step (those who haven't done it may not appreciate how big). Taking away the security of wages ups the levels of both responsibility and freedom. I found it life-changing (not always for the better at the time, but definitely the better for the experience). It tests you and your family. If you haven't already done so, my unsolicited advice would be to put together a very conservative business plan (the interwebby can help you on templates etc). If near worst-case still stacks up, you have a good reference point to track against. If you're doing better than the business plan, self-back-patting is required. If you're not going as well as the plan, step back and think about changes that could make a difference.
Most of all, remain determined and excited about the whole prospect.

Whatever happened to the old mower and cycle shops, where did the relationship end? There's one in Waipukurau that sells Rocky Mountain and Trek via TradeMe but that's only one I know of.

I'm pretty sure there is still such an establishment in Hawera.

And there's certainly one in Porirua.
only just, bikes is very small part... there is the Avanti in Feiding
