First priority was rider safety - getting everyone out of the forest intact. After that, a 'race' for anyone other than the top 10-20 would have been damn near impossible to restart - due to the fact that people had completed differing amounts of the course when they were stopped. Also - Riders could still continue on the course (after the forest) if they wanted to 'finish' - which a lot did, myself included.

I'm sure there are things that could have been done differently - but the organisers & Taupo mtb club did the best that they could on the day.

yer a restart would not have been possible or fair, Mikey who was leading had and extra about 5km of racing his legs over over 2nd who got stop earlier,
and then for the slower cats would have been even worse

they did the only and best option available to them

:withstupid:

The other point is anyone who's ridden the tracks directly after Hub.. especially if you were sent through totara gully will know that they just aren't designed for what would've been a couple hundred riders en mass. Probably should clarify it's BikeTaupo that are in charge in this race, Mtb Club has nothing to do with it.

another big suck :

Prize giving this year
We would like to apologise for any offence taken at the 6pm prize giving presented by MC David Steele. David is a volunteer like many of us – he has worked on a non remunerated basis on so many community events for 25 years and this is his first transgression that we are aware of. His comments in no way reflect the views and philosophy of the Cycle Challenge.

how disgraceful to force out that apology

mostly women. After describing the dishwasher in the campervan prize as "a lovely lady" or some such, he then looked at the crowd and said "what are all you women doing here?" cunzor.

Today I get an email from Times-7 Sport, saying I didn't return my Timing Tag - WTF?

First there's not even a proper race and then they lose my Time Tag.. Fairly sure the friendly volunteers just after the finish took it off my forks :(

This obviously makes you an expert on what some women find offensive.

i was loling at that comment. classic.

Trancemaster - don't you think everything has to be taken in context? e.g to some female friends - not offensive.

I reckon MC had a few vinos to loosen up
