How Much Money Should We Give Everyone?

Postby Tama on Wed 25/Feb/09 2:47pm

On the subject of Bugle's post: your-cures-for-the-economy-t93316.html I've noticed that the main way governments are addressing the current financial crisis is by giving everyone more money.

So how much money do you think everyone should get? Remember we need enough to stimulate the economy and get back to the status quo of everyone living this suburban dream:

Give everyone $1000 and force them to spend it on NZ-made items (such as marijuana or steinlager).

I'm dribbling with utter flabberghastedness with the OZ gummint giving me close to a grand for nothing. I don't actually need any money, I have ZERO debt and have savings. When they give me this moolah I am going to shove it in the bank, quite the opposite of what they are hoping I will do with it. I already have enough LCD tv's etc!

Daft.

to achieve my suburban dream I will require about $2500 i think, to be spent on paint of varying hues, plus a bale of fake seaweed, plastic hanging fish, green furry cushions, polystyrene boulders, and a blacklight, for creating an underwater themed chill room in my house

the rest will go on a bit of plaster of paris, fibreglass, foam rubber, and red velvet, to make an enormous vagina/sphincter type of portal around the front door

any left over will buy me something to help appreciate the ambience, and/ormaybe a second-hand pair of outdoor speakers for burying in the bank next to my gin lawn

as far as the hideous caricature of a fake graeco-roman villa pictured above goes.... if I woke up in that THING it would be the stuff of nightmares

So it wasn't offensive to me alone...

I'd want probably $2Million. Cash only, no taxes.

The best commentary I've ever seen on the American suburban dream (apart from American Beauty) is the TV show "Weeds".

The series that just aired in the US is excellent, but at the end of series prior to that Nancy

(SPOILER)

got a bunch of petrol and burned her motherfucking mcmansion to the ground.

Didnt the Germans try that? They had to pay for a loaf of bread with a wheelbarrow full of money.

Thats partly what I dont really get about the US "package".

THe US appears to be running such a deficit, that these bail out packages are just going to be met by printing more money, which in itself is going to cause more problems (as it has to date)

Yes, but mostly for The Youth of Today, who are the ones who would bare the consequences. That would teach them for being young and carefree.
