How About It Preview

Postby Tama on Fri 21/Sep/07 4:32pm

I've been lucky enough to score an advance pre-production copy of "How About It" from Chris Arnison and Tim Pierce at Dysto Media. As you might be aware Vorb has been a major supporter of this project and it's great to see it finally come to fruition.

Those of you familiar with the work of Chris and Tim who've been hyped on the "How About It" trailer will not be disappointed.

It's a 2 DVD set with the first disc featuring "How About It". Chris and Tim both have a great eye for visuals, combined with Chris's meticulous post production editing and preparation has resulted in an incredibly stylish and visually rewarding package.

The film itself is split into rider sections with no voice overs or linking apart from quirky themed introduction sequences and the occasional landscape shot. The riding is spread all over the country but the bulk of the action takes place in the South Island. Many of the riders are filmed in multiple locations with the viewer left to guess where particular trails or features are.

Knowing some of the locations I'm impressed by the commitment of the riders and the crew in searching out remote and unknown areas to film in. One sequence in particular would have involved around 3 hours of lugging gear up a mountain, but believe me it's worth it.

The featured riders are Brett Frew, Sam Blenkinsop, Cameron Cole, Paul Needham, Matt Scoles, Kieran Bennett and Ben Finney and each gets a suitably decent time to show their respective skills and riding styles. The soundtrack is an idiosyncratic mixture of indie rock, hip-hop and electronica, from a surprisingly international selection of artists with one track per rider.

The bonus disc features comprehensive coverage of the 2007 Nationals, complete with results and podium shots. There's also the traditional crash section, interviews, music videos and a riding section from Wyn and Eddie Masters.

All up this is a fantastic DVD set and at $45 it's a bargain.

I'm away next week too, so I guess it will be waiting for me in my letterbox (or the neighbours place). Can't wait to see it. I am guessing from the preview shots that Karetai track is on it too ( It is the closest trail from my place - aprox 1.6km!)
