Am currently planning a bike ride up to Parachute 2010 (Mystery Creek, Hamilton) from my hometown of Upper Hutt. Considering I am not yet an avid rider, it seems like a pretty long trip for me.

Atm, I try riding round the Blue Mountains route behind Upper Hutt (only about 26km), and am definitely planning longer trips. Any training tips?

Start small, work your way up.

As for 'seems like a pretty long trip for me' - Upper Hutt to Hamilvegas? Who is that a short trip for

I don't see why you couldn't do it. You could ride from Upper Hutt to Bulls in a day EASY. Next day through desert Rd to Turangi then through to Hams on day three.

I'd start the training now though.

What? That's a crazy shit road.

I'd go Taupo/Cambridge/Mystery Creek.
