Has Anyone Broken Their Little Toe Before?

Postby Tama on Tue 15/Sep/09 8:01am

A couple of weeks back I stubbed my little toe and since then it's been swollen, red and sore. I'm trying to work out if it's worth going to see the G.P. or if I can just do something like taping it up.

Any suggestions? Sensible ones preferably but I'm open to options.

As long as you're sure its not infected (unlikely given its lasted weeks and hasnt fallen off) just strap it up. All your GP is gonna do is say strap it up, or at the very most order an xray with the final suggestion to: strap it up.

I'd strap it up :eh:

Wise words, the doc ain't gonna do jack. Recon I've done all my fingers and toes at least twice each and there is bog all you can do for toes (unless the skin is broken) either strap it up or stay out of jandals, wear shoes everywhere

You show a lot of faith seeking medical advise from the vorb massive. Maybe it's at least as reliable as the bike advice given out around here. Perhaps you should just get a perm and not worry about it :p

yep, about all you can do is strap it to the one next to it and put a bit of some thing between them, Im assuming there is no bone sticking out of the skin anywhere

Those little rubber rings that farmers use on the lambys tails.

Couple of weeks and the pain will go right way.

Sorted.

Good thing is that toe will never get in the way again.

The part about putting something between the toes is key - you don't wanna get athletes foot.
Or do you...? :paranoid:

I broke my big toe at the beginning of the year and didnt go to the doc because of the whole "they cant do anything" but it wasnt much better a month later and I kept re-injuring it so I bit the bullet and went to the GP and as per the script he sent me for an x-ray just to make sure the bones werent displaced then sent me on my way. The only thing that made it worth it though was the kickass prescription voltarin 75mg'ers, nothing makes a broken toe (or anything for that matter) feel better than a 75mg voltarin mmmmm...

I thought NSAIDs (like Voltaren) inhibited bone healing.

I don't know if this has been said alreay, but there's probably nothing a doctor can do. I think you should just strap it up and stop being such a pooftah. :)

Should I just tape it to the toe next to it, or two toes?

Whatever stabilises it best, and another suggestion - put something in between your toes to prevent scrofulous outbreaks.

Apart from "strap it down" this has got to be the best advice I've read all year !! :D
