hope you recover well mate, & hope it doesn't put you off bombing fire roads, there to much fun

Knew a guy had the same type of accident on the Karapoti but the 4WD had bullbars, he was seriously injured and almost died through loss of blood, got a piece of broken bullbar in him, broken femur and pelvis. There happened to be a forestry helicopter nearbye that got him to hospital luckily.
Bullbars suck, they're dangerous in all accidents.
Was that Jeff(Geoff?) about 10 years back?

Yeah, thats the one, maybe more like 15 yrs. Went to school with him, tough bugger.

I remember that - poor bugger had some serious hardware holding him together. You didn't hang with the Mud Cycles crowd back then did you?

No, just used to walk with the guy to school and talk schoolboy sh*t, used to bump into him every now and again after that. He played league in his twentys, not sure if that was before or after.

There was an article about his crash in one of the local Jville rags at the time. They said he would have almost certainly died if the chopper wasn't there, he must've been honking. It's always in the back of my mind on 'Poti rec missions (by far the best thing about 2 strokes is the warning 'braarp braarp' you get).

Awesome dave - you've got one of them fancy swoopy hydroformed downtubes.

Take it easy on the recovery, and hope to see you out there again soon.

FARK!!

I just read this. Dave, thoughts with you and your recovery man, that is a really (although it prolly doesn't feel it) lucky out come from an accident that could've been much worse!!

Have to add though, well done for fucking up a 4WD!!

*cough* Nothing to read here. :paranoid:

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words.

One week out of hospital now and things are improving a little bit each day.
I can now do cool stuff like tie my own shoelaces.

One of the garks on my leg got a bit festery, so regular nursie visits and antibiotics for me.
Doc says I don't seem to have enough haemoglobins, yet more blood tests and rusty nails for dinner.

Still get a bit tired in the afternoons, this means I get to practice being even older and grumpier, and have little nana naps in the afternoon.

Back to work next week (half days) so the boss is pleased

I think we should have a grand lowry ride in honor of your return to biking. No 4WDs up there ;)

Ouch, sorry to hear about that dude!

Spleeno in blenheim had the same thing happen a few years ago, lost his spleen, hence the nickname...

Perhaps someone with a flag should have to walk ahead of 4wds on tracks to make sure its safe for others!
