Out of respect for the people that live across the road and for the fact that that it is a very bad area with shade and blinding sun I have placed the ghost bike near the intersection of kara road

It was fantastic to see the sports editorial in yesterday's Sunday Star Times (Sports, pg2) devoted to ghost bikes (with a mention of the farcical police comments after the K2 crash). Something very different to the usual rugby boofhead tripe that most sports editors in this country come up with week after week.

yer the reporter was cool as to talk with and Im glad its spreading across the country,he wasnt happy with what that cop said either, and now I see that the cops are trying to down play it a bit now that the facts are starting to surface like that no one was seen on the right side of the centerline which makes sence as how would the ute have been able to overtake in the first place if they where on the wrong side?

Sadly you could do TWO for the roadies killed South of you last month - a man South of the Whangarei and a Woman near the Brenderwyns (I think). :(

They're a very good idea.
Of course there may be the scumbags that would spray "Good job" or some such beside the bike....but hopefully unlikely :hmmm:

We all need reminders that injury and death is ever present.
I've studied the use of Skulls and Ruined Buildings in Art and they serve as great reminders and help to invigorate people to live in the now more

Thanks for this.
I read it and sent a note to Steve praising his writing. :)

my exact thought! when my mate got killed 3 years ago we put the remaining part of the frame by his memorial on the side of the road because he not only loved his bike but he loved to ride. within a week some dick head low life came and stole the frame!!!!!!!

I play football with Stevo (forgot all about the article until tonight), but he's a good sort. He used to do a bit of cycling but has stopped now because of 'self preservation' and runs now instead mostly.

But yeah, its sad we have to do such things, and then to have douchebags go and either damage or steal the bike, typical New Zealand.
