I used to work for them... if you want a bit more of a low down I will send you my number and we can have a chat

They usually shut in December for the rainy season, open again in February sometime...

Did not get many tourists from the USA down that way, but plenty of Irish, English, Ozzies Kiwis and Europeans...

Have sent them an email. :) Been thinking about this for a couple of years (actually since Mundi went there) and I finish my course this year so it's time to do something with myself!

I've still been coming on here virtually every day, just haven't had anything worthwhile to say.

Now now... you know that is not the way Vorb works...

If we all waited until we had something worthwhile to say then Vorb would only have about 1% of the content it currently does!!

We rode with these guys when we were over recently an i have to say they are an awsome bunch of guys. If your looking to fund your cycling habit this is a great way to do it. The scenery is incredible and the riding is sick.

Im kind of tempted to go myself

Re: Get Paid (badly) To Ride Your Bike (updated)

Postby GravityBolivia on Mon 17/Aug/09 9:56am

As we move through the 2009 season Gravity now have a much clearer idea of customer demand this year, and of the movements of the current team of guides.

*As such we can now post our requirements for guides in Bolivia for the next 6 months or so.

August 2009 (/anytime this month!/): One-Two positions available for full-time guides.
Early- Mid October 2009: Two - Three positions available for full-time guides.
Late Feb/Early March 2010: Two positions available for full-time guides.*

In all instances, priority is given to:

1. Guides with training, certification, or experience in rope rescue, bike mechanicing, and first aid ... and urm, riding a bike!
2. Guides who will commit for a MINIMUM of NINE MONTHS, the money works out much better if you can commit up to 13 months.
3. Guides who have a partner who would be interested in working as a front desk sales person (does not require sales experience).
4. Guides who don't have a partner interested in working in the office, but who feel they have other skills (including the ability to work in the front office doing sales) that could contribute to Gravity's World Domination plans, and are interested in splitting their time between the office and guiding.

If you are interested in any of the above openings, first read this....

1. The pay sucks, its really only enough to break-even on ... until about your 6th month, by which time you will be putting away a bit of money, and if you are reasonably restrained you could leave at about the one-year stage with a couple of thousand US$ in savings.
2. Given that a few people in the last couple of years have flaked on us, we now offer a couple of bonuses during your time with us, one is paid out when you complete the work visa process, and the other when you reach or pass the amount of time we agreed as being your contract.
3. It really helps to EITHER come here with about US$1000 in the bank/hand to set yourself up OR bring a beater guide bike, and all the usual personal guiding tools and about US$500 in the bank. If you don't do this then you might feel the pinch when you initially set yourself up, invest in the work-visa etc.
4. The guiding is 95% dirt road downhill babysitting with adventure travelers, many of whom haven't ridden a bike for a long long time! Refer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtUaherTC50 This is what we term the "another day at the office" side of things. IT IS A LONG DAY, 6am-9pm (roughly), and requires a good sense of humor, a genuine enthusiasm for mountain biking, and a high tolerance for the idiosyncrasies of the great unwashed public. Besides this there are lots of opportunities for riding single-track, and occasionally guiding it (ie being paid to ride it, while doing your best to make sure customers don't break their necks). Refer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOZVY7bCS_8 for one of our favorite tracks.

If you are still interested, please email me ASAP with:

1. Which of the above intakes you are interested in.
2. Some photos of you in action.
3. A brief background of your riding, guiding, rope, rescue, mechancing and first aid experience and training.

If we pick you as someone who seems to have the right stuff, then we will email you a much more comprehensive guide information pack and questionnaire.

Clearly for the August position you might want to check to see if you can actually get here in time!

Cheers
