Planted my potatoes yesterday - am interested to see how they fight off the usual convolvulus attacks.

Also got stawberries, boysenberries, manderins, lemons, spinach, cabbage, onions, lettuce, carrots and about 5 different herbs growing in a raised container garden 5m by 1m. Covered the lot with some netting from a vineyard to keep off the cabbage moths and birds. Will use sprays very sparingly.

Soil is a mix of kitchen compost, zoodoo, clay and some topsoil. Mostly clay. We're lucky enought to be north facing on Welly's south coast. Needs irrigation each night through summer - especially the strawberries

That's right... people out there are trying to earn a living from selling fruit and veg. Would you like to be responsible for making someone jobless and homeless just because you were selfish and grew your own?

Small is better... haven't you realised that a strawberry only has x amount of flavour and that's why big strawberrys are so tasteless and dry in comparison to yummy small juicy ones
