afraid all the rides around there are very steep up, and then down. best bet is to head up Long bay road out of Akaroa and climb the 600-700m hill and come down either the purple peaks track (turn right at the top) or down the Takamatua stock route (turn left, along the summit rd, and the track is opposite the road down to le Bons bay).

Stoney bay rd is another one for the hill climbers straigth out of town

there are great old skool trails up there as described by Gordster, the only singletrack is the Bank Pen track and that is privately owned.

The nearest trail is probably the Double Fenceline.

That said it is an enjoyable pedal on the roads out there and the views are stunning, if earned.

Smile

Stoney Bay road is actually STRAIGHT UP!
double fence line is good as brat mentions.
There are some other rides around out there, but they involve a few phone calls to farmers, most who are fine

Had a good time. Long Bay Road is one of those have to do roads I suppose but Purple Peaks Track was good fun. Also road up Woodills and across Tree Crop farm, out on seal to Marae and back with a detour down through Pine forest & onto the bottom Rd back around to Akaroa. The local kids were great for info. They ride the 2 local parks - Tanes Garden which seems to be their favourite & Stanley park right in Akaroa. Great to see them with smiles on their faces always asking us where we had been.

yer the garden of tane is a bit of fun. Bugger all people seem to use it apart from the playground.

There is a track along the ridge from the Stony Bay saddle that goes out to the light house rd. Haven't ridden it in years and I think the local farmer is a bit anti people using it, but it is a bit of fun too. Just a long way to get up there though.

Oh the ride out to Nikua Gully is pretty cool too.
