[I searched but couldn't find an appropriate thread for this]
I don't commute by bike but when I do I do it to get some exercise and as a relaxing way to get to work.......
This morning riding on the cycle lane about 50m before it ends and Thorndon Quay shops start (heading south) a guy in a Honda Accord cut right across the foot path from behind me. I am still not sure how I managed to not hit the passenger side of his car....anyway stuff like this happens.
I yelled at the guy (not swearing) "Hey, you cut me off." I like to make people aware of what they have done in the hope that maybe they will look next time.
What happened next just wound me up. There were some painters waiting to get into the piant shop and they started sweaing at me and abusing me for yelling at the guy!!! Really bad language as well. It was an example of the unhealthy anger that is present in many New Zealanders and I can totally understand how (if I hadn't just ridden away with blood boiling) that a full on brawl could have occured!
That's my rant.......

What ar$eholes! 
Thing is, those guys wouldn't ever know what its like to ride a bike on a busy road. They'd probably be too scared to go out the front gate

car owners like to play with weapons in public, lets even the odds and arm the cyclists!
drivers love to play the 'I didn't see you' card or even claim the that we shouldn't be on the road!
can you imagine the fracas that would result if someone was fooling with a rifle, and shot someone cos they 'didn't see them but besides, that person shouldn't have been in the way of where I was playing with my gun anyway'

What draters! That sucks. I hope it was near the beginning of your commute rather than ending like that..
At least it wasn't the guy in the car that was abusing you, given the self-righteous audaciousness some tiwkcuf drivers seem to possess..

yeah, kcidheads desperate to get involved in some stoush that isnt even their business.

That sucks man! It's really scary when people get to that level of anger over stuff that hardly even effects them (and especially ironi when it effects the person they're angry at a great deal). Sitnk one There are some crazy people out there!

It's sad that that sort of tihs happens. I had it happen to me a couple of months back after being side swiped by a van along Waterloo Quay who after he struck me just tooted his horn and carried on. I caught and started exchanging words with the van driver at the stadium lights and the driver in the car beside him just had to join in and abusively vent his dislike of cyclists in general. Whilst I reported the van driver to the police it was the car driver who ssiped me off with his attitude far more.

It's a nasty stretch of the commute along there. I was following Marco along there commuting a couple of years back and a car 'didn't see' a group of three or four cyclists and totally cut us off. Lets just say Marco made the driver aware of our displeasure. Was pure gold and I'm pretty sure the message got through.
Angle parking + lots of businesses + people in a hurry = Cyclists injured or worse
