Hi there,

I've downloaded some music off iTunes and it is a mpeg-4 (protected) audio file, and I want to convert it to and mp3 file so I can play it on my mp3 player.

Can anyone help me or am I doomed?

Thanks a lot

Nick

I might be wrong, but I think all audio taken directly from iTunes is mpeg format, but if you go into itunes >itunes music > and then the music folder itself, the audio files are all in mp3 format.

That is the case for me anyway.

Nope, not the case for me, they're in mpeg-4. When i go to convert them to mp3 the files don't show as supported media types when other mpeg-4 files are able to be converted. I think it is to do with this protected bit of it. How do i get rid of it?

Ahh, mpeg-4, you'll need to 'acquire' a program to convert to mp3. It can be done though.

Sony Soundforge
Though, doing that is against the license you accepted before downloading these files.

I think you can burn as an audio CD. you can then rip the cd as an MP3 (in itunes options there is a tab that lets you select the file format for ripping cds)
the downside is that unless it is a whole album you will lose the track names etc

right click the song in your library and just play around, thats what i do if something happens, click 'get info' and you can play around with the song/s.

i thought the new copyright act allows one format shift. changing an MP4 into an MP3 for personal use is format shift.
it may be a breach of the terms under which you purchased the content though
