Good, and thanks for clicking on this thread.

Now. Im after a couple of good quality close-up pics of the stickers. I want the XXIX sticker around the rear part of the top tube, the smaller similar one around the rear part of the chainstay, and at least some of the main 'Raleigh' stickering around the down tube. It doesmt have to show every letter, just an idea of the font/style, and how far they wrap around.

Why? My frame went back under warranty, and I have been sent a new frame, that is almost identical. However I want to custom paint it, but retain the original stickers but done in a different colour, so I want to give something to show Mr.stickerman.

Thanks, in anticipation, for your help.
Smile

Let me know what was wrong with yours so i can keep an eye on mine please.
I remember meeting a dude in rotorua earlier this year who had cracked his one too......Sad
Any issues with the warranty? What is the frame warranty on these? I hope its not a too common problem.
Cheers
Matt

I have nothing but good things to say about my treatment over this. FWIW yes it did get a crack, on the underside of the chainstay on the non-driveside. I have had this bike since November 2006, and have ridden it a lot, predominantly at Rotorua, on the majority of the trails. I have also rearranged it into cyclocross mode at time, and also ridden it fixed, on the road.
I have never been big on maintenence, or even cleaning for that matter. Part of the reason I bought a bike with no gears or suspension. For all I know that crack has been there for months, I was swapping around some cogs last week, had it upside down, and noticed it. Took it to the LBS to show them, they said it should be no problem, then I went and rode it at the cyclocross race, the crack never got any bigger.
They have replaced it with an Avanti KISS 29 frame and fork, complete with brand new headset.
I dont know how long the frame warranty goes for, but as my LBS dude said, it was designed for offroad use, and that is what I have used it for. I will be happy to keep on riding the new frame no differently to the old one, if it cracks again, and I dont get warranty, I will get it welded up. As I would have done with this one if there was no other option.

Weird getting an Avanti to replace your Raleigh... although they look the same so might be from the same factory?

I really like the new colour of the KISS for '09... but custom is way cooler Double Thumbs Up

It's good to know that changing the configuration didn't affect the warranty (I guess they would have to put exclusions in the warranty). I hope it's the same for my Mary if anything tragic happens. Paranoid

Do you reckon they'll ever do the other xxix's in avanti? I've always liked the idea of the xxix+g and I hear there's another model in lineup for 09. IMO they should have done the xxix+g instead of the scratch.

I'd be fairly certain they are from the same factory, you only need to look at the dropouts to see that. There actually is a slight change, the Raleigh had the rear brake cable routed along the top of the top tube, the Avanti has it routed under the top tube. Also, it is interesting to hold the stripped-down frame and fork, they each feel like they weigh about the same (ie: Very solid fork, very light frame).
I dont think they will ever do an equivalent of the XXIX+G, because Avanti has that base covered with the Scratch 29er, although it is in Aluminium.
The other thing I noted is that the '09 Raleigh has a change to the frame which allows the same geometry but using a suspension-corrected fork (which obviously gives you the option to run suspension if you want, without mucking with the geo), whereas the '09 KISS 29er is still using the same frame and fork as previous models.

I did ask the bikeshop guy about the fact I had changed things around a fair bit, and did it effect the Warranty (he knew this full-well anyway), and, quite rightly, he pointed out that in cyclocross mode, it wasn't possible to ride the bike as 'hard' as with the flat bars and big volume tyres, so no negative affect there.

I think Shepphards probably brought in the Raleigh in '06, to dip a toe in the 29er water, and it worked well enough to do a deal and rebrand the Raleigh frame in Avanti colours. Only a completely uneducated guess though Big Grin
