Anyone know if we can ride from Battle Hill to Paekak along the proposed new route? or is it all private land.
If not, and we can ride there, does anyone know where i can find some info on the route. i can't find any on the interweb.
i have looked on google earth and can see a 4x4 farm track over some of it.

TIA

still probabaly at least 75% private land and there is no actual formed/farm road or path on most of it anyway and a lot of it is very steep

but on the www and the GWRC brochure the aeriel view does show a 4x4 track - being the one to access the transmission towers- i wonder if this has anything to do with the gullys name - probably not !!!
so the answer is - public access at Battle Hill, private land the rest- and the 4x4 track is a Transpower Easement over the farm land rather than public access.
bugger.

thanks ryda.

if you are looking at this pic http://www.transit.govt.nz/projects/transmission-gully/gallery/photos/blahblahblah

the paper road is where the yellow line is which is on the side of a very steep slope
and yes you are correct the only public access a part from a section on flighty's road is pretty much battle hill farm

and yes the name did come from the transsmision lines running through their

sorry, I'll make it clearer, the paper road follows where the yellow line is on that page, is not where the existing 4wd track runs.Where the paper road runs is as of the momentit is too steep and rough to ride on, this why there is massive amounts of earthworks required to put the road through

oh and for good measure Paranoid

one day we shall meet and it will be pumps drawn at dawn !!!!!

so where can i ride thats different? not overly hilly, but 'fulfilling'.

i have thought about catching the train to paraparaumu, and coming back through karapoti. that should be a whole day to get to UH Rail.

i've done the entire skyline from Jville to MP. that was good, but windy.

puke ariki - start at haywards, end at petone - who has done that? time and speed pls. i hate hills, so a slow grovel up them.

um, yeah, i live here. thats why i mentioned so many local routes.
actually, a good ride is UH Rail to Featherston going via birchville/maymorn/tunnel gully.
the section from the carpark to the summit is a bit boring as you would be aware, but the rest of the ride is ok. even better is the ride to featherston and the pub, with a train ride back to UH Rail.
