 |
|
Calendar Event: July 5, 2008 Attendees: 80% Chance(2) - 40% Chance(1) - Total: 3 - Expected: 2 - View Saturday July 5 will be the day to put your hand in your pocket to help raise funds to get our 2008 NZ Champs, Garth Weinberg and Annika Smail, to the Worlds in Napa, California on August 24.
Poker Run at Midday: The poker run (as many laps as possible, picking up cards at various points with a bonus card every time you nail the gap jump at the end, best hand wins - and there are great spotties, as well).
Event HQ will be at the Hill Road gate, past the Waipa Mill. Register at midday and give us your money - with race start at 12.30-ish. Spot prizes, so far, from Morgan at Zippy Central, Gaz at Nzo and Jo at Galaxy Travel Rotorua. The poker run will be on old-school trail, Old Chevy - and trail builder, Rick Todd is the organizer.
Every $20 entry fee will go to the fund-raiser - thanks to Rotorua District Council and Timberlands for waiving forest fees!
THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL RIDERS AND BIKES - singlespeeds, fixies, tandems...and even geared bikes! Come along, have a laugh and make a difference.
• After-match function from 6.00PM: Later that evening we'll be having a few beers at the Pig & Whistle, cnr of Huapapa and Tutanekai Streets.
ALL the takings from the upstairs bar will go to help with Garth and Annika's travel costs.
EVERYONE WELCOME.
• There will also be a quick fire auction with some cool swag: Dave Joy at Bike Vegas has donated Credit Agricole kit signed by Kiwi roadie superstar, Julian Dean. Good story: when Julian was home last summer he helped Mr MTB Rotorua, Dave D, set the 08 XTERRA course. JD can really swing a mountain bike, around too.
And Dave (Juddy) Judson from Nelson (who has been involved in mtbing in NZ for a very long time) has donated some rare, MTB memoribilia.
Keep an eye on the website for more details soon.
If you want to contribute spot prizes or fabulous auction action, get in touch at singlespeed[at]riderotorua.com
• There'll be an exclusive, one-off poker run T-shirt by Gaz from Nzo
Stay tuned - design coming soon. • And we also have the absolute last 5 Pig & Whistle 2008 NZ Champs posters, designed by Gaz and signed by Garth and Annika. Best bid for one is currently $50 - put in your best offer to singlespeed[at]riderotorua.com
• Fund-raising is going well.
• $10 from every singlespeed entry in the 2008 NDURO Winter Series will go in the hat.
Race 2 is on this Sunday, June 15 and Race 3, the finale, is on Sunday July 13.
Entry forms are in bike shops and places like Zippy's, online and on the day at race HQ. The course map for Race 2 is also on the web site.
$10 will also be contributed from all entries (received before Garth and Annika leave for the USA on August 17) in the singlespeed category in 2008's two NDURO Classics - the 70km Highlander on Saturday August 23 and The Big One, the Whaka 100 on Saturday October 4.
• Events and Venues Rotorua are sponsoring the "team" van in Napa.
• Gaz from Nzo is designing a cool riding top for Garth and Annika.
• And Auckland's Bicyclette has made a very healthy cash donation.
Every bit will count to get our two champions to the USA and the 2009 Worlds back to NZ. Thanks to everyone who's helping...
Please feel free to unsubscribe from this mailing list if you no longer want to receive regular updates on Worlds build-up and also next year's New Zealand Singlespeed Champs (Anzac Weekend, 2009)...

Anyone else planning on doing this?
Great cause, and as the opening blurb says, its open to ALL RIDERS AND ALL BIKES.
Ie: Its not limited to singlespeeds.
Sounds like it could be a good day out in a pretty casual fun event.
