Calendar Event: June 8, 2008 Attendees: Definite(1) - Total: 1 - Expected: 1 - View Hi Everyone,
With winter well and truly upon us this Sunday (the 8th June) will be our first tree planting of the year. We will be focusing around the Makara Peak summit, Ridgeline, Zac's, T3 and upper Aratihi tracks. There's a few hundred plants to take care of, so the more hands the better. Included will be 100 Northern Rata donated by Project Crimson. It's also Arbour Day this week, so our timing is impeccable ;-).
Meet 10am at the South Karori Road car park (especially if you want a ride) or anytime soon after at the summit. Alternatively you can park at the top of the Makara Hill Road and walk up Varleys and the 4WD track.
As always there are multiple options for jobs on the day, it doesn't have to all be hard labour as not everyone needs to dig. Plant-carrying and constructing wind shelters are alternatives. Even a couple of hours in the morning or afternoon would be a big help.
Gloves, lunch, tools and plants provided!
P.S. For those of you who don't already know today is the day that Makara Peak stalwart Simon Kennett flies out to compete in the Great Divide MTB Race which kicks off later this month. Simon is going to crack it in 20 days of 20 hours riding or there abouts.
You can keep up to date with his progress so far here: http://greatdividekiwi.blogspot.com/ and once the race starts here: http://www.greatdividerace.com/.

Hi All,
Sunday 6th July has the supporters planting at the summit and the skills area. It would be great to have a good turn out of helpers to get these plants in to the ground.
Meet at the car park at 10am.

Hi All - The work party is still on this morning. 10am at the South Karori Carpark or just come straight to the skills area where we will be planting today.
Going to give the Summit planting a miss unless the winds die down and the sun comes out :-).
Will have tools for some track work too if we get done early with the plants for the Skills Area.
See you there
Ben

A big thanks to everyone who made it out on a chilly and windy Sunday.
We planted 150+ plants around the Skills area and another 50+ or so down Lazy Fern.
A big thanks to Andy, Patrick, Syrias (sorry if I have spelt your name wrong!), Greg, Bronnie, Euan, Don, Hugh, Grant, Zac, Sam + family.
Thanks too to Stu from the WCC for ferrying the plants there during the week and picking more up for us from the Summit yesterday.
Ben
