There are a number of local rides being organised (taking place this Wednesday night - 21 May) and it would be great if you could put something on your home page to publicise this event.

Our ride details are here: http://forum.pickledpedallers.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=540 . Our ride is being organised by another local cycling group - the Devonport Xpressos - and we will be there to support the cause. Two of our group have been injured in the last couple of years - I was one of them! Driver did u-turn without 'seeing me' (!) and didn't stop (!!), even though I smashed his drivers-side window with my shoulder. Broke my collarbone, acromium, shoulder blade and five ribs. The Police got him.

Everyone has at least one close call every time they're out on a bike - that's pretty much our experience in Auckland, anyway.

The official website is here: http://www.rideofsilence.com/

We're hoping to get a good turnout - anything to raise public awareness of cycling and it's (generally) avoidable dangers.

Here is the plan:

· Meet at the corner near the Victoria Dairy and St Leo’s 6.55pm, opposite the church (cnr of Victoria Rd and Albert Rd, at the top of the hill – yes, you don’t have to ride up the hill through the village – how easy is that?)

· Leave at 7pm

· Ride down the cycle lanes to Hauraki Corner, then turn left and, when safe, cross the road – probably about 100m down. Regroup

· Head back to Devonport by turning right at the Hauraki Corner lights, and riding up the cycle lanes

· Turn right at the roundabout and cruise down into Devonport village

· Gather at The Patriot, which is on the left just before the former Jackson’s museum, for some rehydration.
