Hi, I'm new to mountain biking and am thinking of going to Summer Hill at the weekend, anyone been there and wondering which track to use? Not completely non-technical but certainly nothing mad at this stage, just a bit of good downhill without 5m drops and stuff!
Also, how long are the tracks and how long approx. do they take?
Welcome to vorb
I was up summer hill last night
the flowing downhill trail is on the opposite side of the road to the carpark 200-300m up the road, It's got a lot of technical tight corners, nothing too crazy, and it has a 10-15 minute ride/push back up to the top of the road.
The farm and bush tracks on the carpark side of the road are worth a look at too.
Thanks for that Mr Bob, you would have been one of the chaps cycling up there past the queueing traffic after the P lab raid just past Te Puke? I saw hree guys with lighting sets etc etc?

Yes I would've been
I didn't have lights last night, but yes I was with 2 other people last night
I took the SRAM track a little too fast and washed out on one corner, but otherwise was good.
There is a bay of plenty forum too http://www.vorb.org.nz/forum-108.html
And a tauranga Mtb club forum too

(This will probably get shifted when a moderator picks up, and move it to bay of plenty forum)

Wicked! I went to Summer Hill this morning and done the flowing downhill track a couple of times. Man it was good, proably didn't break any records, certainly not on the way back up! But I enjoyed it, survived it and had a ball. Unfortunatley my speedo packed up so I could see how long it was or how long it took to get down, how long is it roughly, anyone know?
Think its probably around 1km down, and 1km back out. I rode there today also, trails are riding nicely at present. Saw one of the volunteers doing some scrub clearing, also the PD boys hard at work clearing, smoothing, and widening the GT track also. Thank goodness for the law-breakers!
