This is the email the club recivied from Steve Watson explaining the new Vehicle access rules for all parties into Long Gully.

Hi guys
We have been under pressure for some time to control entry to Hawkins Hill from
the Wind Turbine Carpark. This is not just a Mountainbike issue so will need to
apply to MotorX, 4x4 Clubs, Bens Track users, and other Recreational users.

What it will essentially mean is that only authorised vehicles with prior
approval will be allowed through the gate. With regard to Mountainbike users we
would like the club to authorise its users.

The main thought to be kept in mind is that we don't want to see any random two wheel drive vehicles without authorisation stickers on the windscreen through the gate.
Policy will take effect from this weekend. (20 March 2008)

1. The gate will be locked at the wind turbine
2. Nominated 4 x 4 shuttle vehicles only allowed through the gate.
3. Nominated 4 x 4 vehicle to contact club for authorisation, combination for
lock (to be changed regularly) and authorisation sticker to be displayed on
windscreen for the day
4. Shuttle vehicle to display authorisation sicker on windscreen
5. 4 wheel drive to be engaged at all times on farm roads including new seal
6. Speed to be kept under 30 km/hour
7. No spectator's vehicles other than club competition days by prior
arrangement

We are open to your thoughts and comments but we need to start somewhere to try
and accomodate all parties whilst endeavouring to satisfy our neighbours and
keep expensive road maintenance to an acceptable level.

I should have windscreen stickers available so give us a call if you anticipate
track use this weekend.

Thanks.
Steve

This doesn't sound like good news. Seems to be getting more and more difficult to ride at LG.

Maybe true, as the car use is being limited, but riding there is not being further restricted, and w00t to the landowners, who need not grant any access at all. Smile Smile

This comes as a reminder to everyone in our club using LG that we are guests on someone elses land so please please follow the rules and ensure everyone else is to so that the club can work with the watsons.

Cheers.

Last dig day I rode across. All the way up to the top of the course - it only took 25 minutes from the top of wrights hill too, which was a pleasant surprise. Of course, everyone was working at the bottom of the track so I could have just ridden down there and saved myself the climb up to the top of hawkins. But hell, the ride down jawbone is worth the climb to the top

the combination lock at the turbine gate looks to have been removed,i was up there twice on the weekend(with steves permission & 4wd access pass),both times turbine gate open, however brians gate further along heavily padlocked meaning no access to the top of the track.

You can come along to the dig day this weekend. There will be forms available to be filled in.

What type of vehicle do you have?
