In June, Simon Kennett will have a crack at the 4000km Great Divide mountain bike race from Canada to Mexico.

The Great Divide Race is a self-supported, solo competition following the Great Divide mountain bike route. Traversing the USA, the route demands over 60,000 metres of climbing along its length. Competitors carry all equipment necessary to negotiate the backcountry, restocking with food from towns along the route. Last year a record 25 riders started and 11 reached the finish line. You can find out about the race at:

www.greatdividerace.com

You can follow Simon's progress as he prepares for what might be hardest mountain bike race on earth, at http://greatdividekiwi.blogspot.com

Progress reports from the race will be posted in this thread and Simon's blog is getting added to the Kiwi Racelog - Good Luck Simon!

Most of this thread has evaporated, but I seem to remember lots of good wishes (thanks heaps) and some curiosity about what bike I would ride.

Oli finished building up 'The Carbon Sink' yesterday and it looks sweet. It's a 69'er hardtail weighing in at 21 lbs. Check out the details at www.greatdividekiwi.blogspot.com if you like.

Many thanks to Cycletech, Worralls and Stans NoTubes for the fancy parts; and Roadworks for the build (with help from Revolution Bicycles & Beer in the home-straight).

Here's my pic of the machine in question. Thanks very much to Simon for the honour of building this rig - it's awesome to be a small part of this extraordinary exploit. Double Thumbs Up

The only thing that could make the aero bars on a mountainbike worse, is if those barends were also on riser bars.
