Why:

* Riders from the United Kingdom and New Zealand will race alongside riders from all states in Australia.
* 2nd year Australian Mountain Bike Championships at Stromlo Forest Park
* The site for the upcoming World Cup in August when international riders will return to Australia for the first time since the World Championships in 1996 in Cairns.
* World Cup in Canberra on August 30 - 31 will be the Cross Country Olympic Round 8, Downhill Round 6 and Four Cross Round 6. It will be the World Cup just after Olympic Cross Country riders have competed in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. NB. Cross Country is the only mountain bike discipline in the Olympics at present.
* Important event for riders in the Olympic Cross Country. In particular the women riders as if no Australian woman rider meets the selection criteria at the upcoming World Cups and World Championships then it may eventually fall back to the winner of the National Championships.

I know Mikey Northcott and CK (Chris Kendall) are heading over for Elite mens XC. Other than that.... not too sure
