Its no seceret that the best way to improve the Downhill scene in
Wellington is to give the riders more places to ride.

Well it just so happens that the city Council is going through a pro
mountain bike phase at the moment and is willing to bend over backwards to
help us get some new riding areas sorted.

So far we have managed to prove to the council we mean business due to
sucessful completion of the first phase of the truby king project and they
are willing to help us to develop some new areas.

Here's what the council has approved:

DUAL COURSE (possible 4x track)
Hadley Boyce has taken the lead on the development of this track to be
located behind the hocky stadium in Newtown.
The council have offered a range of reasourses to help to make this happen
in time for the racing to be held there in Feburary.

WINDMILL TO TIP DOWNHILL TRACK
Some time ago a group of members walked down through the gorse with a
council ranger to see if a track could be made possible.
Well it turns out it was and council approvall means we can start when
ever we want.

The problem faced with both of these projects is a lack of support to get
them off the ground. The only way these projects are going happen is if a
few people offer some spare time to support those that are doing the
majority of the work.

Volenteering to help at any club event or project is the small part you
can play to ensure Downhilling is kept alive and well in Wellington.

Please have a think about ,and reply to this post if you want to be involved.

Would these be a pay to ride, club member only tracks like long gully, or would they be free to ride any time sorta thing?

I'd be keen to come help dig, especially with that windmill to tip DH track. I guess there will be organised dig days like the Long Gully ones?

These wouldbe developed on council land by the club for ALL riders in wellington with out any charges.

When enough people register support the project will go ahead.

And the club will probably run some digs there too.

This sounds incredibly cool (especially the 4X - wow!)

I used to live up near where the Karitane jumps are now ages ago, and remember the other residents trying to band otgether to stop MTBers building jumps there. Yay for the council getting behind biking!

I'd be keen to help if I can, first I will join your club though...

I am more than happy to put my name down to help out with the "WINDMILL TO TIP DOWNHILL TRACK " as long as the dig days do not conflict with my commitments at Makara Peak, which are on every second Sunday Smile

I'd definitely be up for helping with the DH track. I've helped out on some of the 7 Stanes tracks in Scotland before moving here and would love to get involved in creating more stuff here.
