Posted: Mon 24/Sep/07 4:43pm Post subject: Help With The Custom Cotic Competition
This thread is for people to ask questions of Paul (honeymonster) from Essence Bicycle about speccing a custom Cotic build for this competition
If you are unsure about anything to do with speccing your dream Cotic build for the competition please post here and Paul will endeavour to answer your query.
I'll post up replies here in bulk, rather than post multiple times and end up repeating the same stuff. So check through to see if your question has been answered before. I won't be on here constantly, but I'll try to check a couple of times each day at least.

The Hemlock won't be here until February (maybe January). Because of uncertainty of delivery and pricing I'm not including it in this competition. Hardtails only.

Online stores... I'm quite happy as long as you get a reasonable price for parts. It doesn't have to be exact, but remember to add shipping and import if required as if you were building the bike up here. NZ ones... Burkes Cycles and Active Kiwi spring to mind.
Fruity products are all good. You should know Nick, thats the fun bit I really enjoy. And the deal with the Cotic builds is that I can get hold of stuff that might not be easily available here (cyclocross tyres and Mary bars spring to mind as examples!)

Entries either in the original thread or by PM to me are fine. And you can edit your entries right up to the deadline. Just one final entry each is all.

I don't want to get into supplying parts prices for everyone. It opens a horrible can of worms for me, and I simply just don't have the time. However, for some of the quirky parts I'll try my best...
Surly stainless chainrings run at around $65.
White Industries ENO freewheels at a bit shy of $200
To cover spokes, tapes, and wheel build I'd add something like $100-110 per wheel.
LX crankset you can pick up prices from the web.

I think "reasonable" is the key word here. Saying "I can get 2005 Pikes from www.cheapndodgybikeparts.com for US$100" might be true but it isn't actually a retail price.

Sounds good to me. Anything that looks highly dubious would have to be checked if it gets that far. If your source leaves you feeling a little grubby, best look somewhere else.
I actually clicked that link and was surprised when there wasn't an online bike shop at the end of it
Anyone know the retail of Fox 32 Float R's and 36 Float R's?
Damnit I'm over by about $1000 with 36's, Might have to go with Pikes... hmmm
That I can look up...
RRP 36 Float R $1877, 32 Float R $1125, 36 Vanilla R $1783, 32 Vanilla R $963
Could look to shave a few $$ elsewhere if the forks are most important.
