Any idea what the charges are on the Wairarapa rail link to wellington to take my bike and where on earth does it go on those nice shiny new carriages?

I've just checked the MetLink train timetable and they haven't listed the price for bikes anywhere on it. Try www.metlink.org.nz
It's been aaages since I took my bike on the rail because I found it was cheaper for me to take my car over the Rimutakas (or just bike to the Hutt from Masterton), but I found the best way is for you to let the guard help you load your bike into the (non-cycle friendly) goods wagon at the end of the train and then buy your ticket on the way from the guard. They usually wouldn't charge me for my bike if I didn't mention it even though I was sitting there in my cycle gear. If you get your ticket from the station office you will have to pay. Pretty sure that if you act like a regular user they just let you off the few bucks for your bike.
