Glenn Haden, onboard his 2Stage, won the first round of the Italian National Championships in the former Winter Olympic village of Pregelato today.

After qualifying in second place, some 4 seconds off the pace, Glenn let it all hang out for his race run and, even though he almost lost it on the first part of the track, he managed to beat current Italian Champ Alan Beggin by less than 0.3 of a second.

"Looks like my training program, eating well and not drinking is finally paying off" Glenn said afterwards.

The track was freshly marked just days before the competion and had never been ridden until saturday practice day and was a real test of bike handling skills, fitness and equipment.

From the top of the chairlft at 1950m it dropped straight down the mountain and was 100 percent natural terrain. There were a few good sized drops and rock sections but the track was mostly high speed virgin grassy terrain.

"This is the steepest and least pedally track that I have ever ridden, and the most fun too" Glenn said during practice.

There were full on drifting moto syle corners near the top and a super steep gully section near the bottom.
Vertical drop was nearly 600m and concidering it took us an hour and a half to walk to the top of the track on friday getting back down in less than 4 minutes was pretty good.

Matt Scoles qualified in 4th place overall, just behind Karim Amour, but a crash in his race run dropped him back to 9th overall and 3rd in juniors.

Mike Skinner also placed 3rd in UM class (under 23 I think?) and finished a very respectable 7th overall.

I finished 5th out of 77 Masters but way off the pace and back in 60th overall.

Glenn is the new Italian Series Leader and took home the yellow jersey too. Glenn is looking forward to returning to Italy so he can defend his title next month.

1st Glenn Haden 3:48.33
2nd Alan Beggin 3:48.67
3rd Karim Amour 3:49.52

7th Mike Skinner 3:53.47 (3rd UM)

9th Matt Scoles 3:53.98 (3rd Junior)

60th Jason Marsh 4:34.78 (5th Master2)
