Thanks :-)

Did I make a mistake or has the date changed?

I had 28th April in my calendar as the date, which I'm sure I read somewhere.

Argh! The website was down and it wasn't listed in the Events Section: http://www.vorb.org.nz/index-events.html

So I thought it wasn't happening and haven't included it as an upcoming event for the next issue of Spoke Magazine. We've still got a chance to get it in (going to the printers at the end of this week.) Where's some information about it? Can someone list it here: http://www.vorb.org.nz/index-events.html

Cheers
Tama

The Ohope Ordeal offers long (40km) and short course (20km) options, both very hilly. The long course includes a mid-race main climb that soars to over 450 metres. On a clear day there are spectacular views over Ohiwa Harbour and out to White Island (Whaakari) and Whale Island (Moutohora). The mix of riding terrain is diverse, with lengthy stretches of single-track and meandering farmland cattle trails, as well as swooping pine needle and shingle covered forestry roads. The ride finishes off with a 50-metre dash across Ohope Beach School playing field.

As well as being – almost - 100 percent ridable, the event is 100 percent mellow. “It’s a really good race. It’s a really interesting course,” said Whakatane rider Carl Jones, who won the Ordeal last year, and recently set a new under-19 record in the Karapoti Classic. “The hills are hard, there’s some pretty cool single-track,” Jones said.
The Ohope Ordeal is organised by the Whakatane Mountain Bike Club in conjunction with Ohope Beach School. The courses have been designed and made by Whakatane MTB Club mountain bikers and cover single track, gravel road, forest and farm trails. Toby Bach has added the Sprockets 6km event to provide an activity for kids. Toby says,” kids will get their own finishers’ packs and we’ll have some fun activities and a lollie scramble afterwards for them.

The BBQs will be hot and the drinks will be cold at the Ohope Beach School Finish Line. Finishers will be able to enjoy a complimentary hot meal and cold drink as they finish this year. Competitors and their supporters will also be able to purchase extra food, drinks and cold beers!

Course Distance & Entry Fees:
Sprockets: 6km $5 (enter on the day no late fee applies)
Short Course: 25kms $35
Long Course: 40kms $45
Corporate Team of Four: $200 (Trophy for winning Team)
(All entries for Short and Long Course include a meal and drink at finish line)
Late Entry Fee: $15 (after 18th May 2007)
T- Shirt: (XS, S, M, L, XL) $30

Registration Times:
6pm to 8pm, Friday 25 May at Ohope Beach School
7:30am to 9:30am, Saturday 26 May at Ohope Beach School

Start Times:

www.whakatane.com/feature_ohope_ordeal.html .

The course is looking great with some new single track and fast downhills to really get the juices flowing. The whakatane MTB club is pulling out all stops to have the course in primo condition for the event.
