Double Thumbs Up

Ok folks. My friend and I spent an absolutely fantastic afternoon riding Rotorua yesterday. The weather was perfect, the sun shining through the trees, the tracks were the best i have seen them and the forest was a beautiful blend of reds, greens and blues. We were stoked. Then whilst munching on our KFC, we agreed we just HAD to come back next week, and this time we want to ride from the visitor centre on Long Mile Rd over to Blue Lake and back, using as much single track as possible, and mininal "back-tracking". But what route would be the best we wondered? We've looked at the map that was printed in the aussie MTBer this month and can peice something together ourselves, but I suggested that those boys and girls on Vorb were bound to be full of opinions and suggestions. So, there it is guys and girls,

What route would you recommend, to go from the visitor centre on Long Mile Rd over to Blue Lake on Day 1, and back on Day 2. Using as much single track as possible and with minimal repetition. We're both fit as and can ride for 6hrs each day, at least.

have fun with this guys, we're looking for the most fun route possible....

cheers

Hmmm.

Ride up the road from Visitors Centre til you reach Tokorangi Pa Road on your left.

Follow this all the way up to a choice of Northface/Gunna Gotta.

A trail

Tickler

Up Direct Rd. Hang a right at the second road off this and head round to Sidewinder.

Lentil Link

Up Hill Rd, then left onto Moerangi.

Right into Bush and Buchanan.

Along the lakefront to Jeff's Link

Then some kind of combination of Pondy/Rollercoaster etc.

Chop suey/spring roll/sweet n sour

Up Direct again if you're feeling up to it, at the top head left and into Hot X Buns.

Which will bring you out at the start of BRNT

Then up Lion or Pig if you're feeling like a masochist

Soakhole/Exit trail.

Home!

All doable in a day Double Thumbs Up

But get yourself a map for "Out the Back" from the Visitors Centre. Have fun!

Admittedly, it rained the whole way around, so we never quite made it to the lake. bUT Man o man, did we have an absolutely FANTASTIC day! Tongue it I highly recommend this menu of Rotoruas best.............................Thanks for the help Scatter.

Up Tokorangi Pa Road

Gunna Gotta.

A trail

Tickler

Up Direct Rd.

Lentil Link

Up Hill Rd (ITS NOT CALLED HILL RD BECAUSE ITS FLAT IS IT? Oooooooh ) , then left onto Moerangi (THIS IS ALSO NOT THE FLATTEST SECTION OF THE DAY... Paranoid )

Right into Pondy Rd

Pondy DH

got lost and missed Rollercoaster ( Sneaky )

Chop suey-spring roll -sweet n sour

Up Direct again if you're feeling up to it, at the top head left and into Hot X Buns. ( Satan ARE YOU NUTS-WE WERE SHOT BY THE TIME WE REACHED THIS POINT, THE BEST WE COULD MANAGE WAS FILLING UP OUR WATER BOTTLES AND SMILING AT THE THOUGHT OF HOTxBUNS)

BRNT

Pig Track

Soakhole

Exit trail.

Home!

Heh. Glad you had a good time! Shame about the weather, it's a hell of a lot easier in the dry.

Oh, and yes I'm a somewhat crazy GIRL Wink

Must admit, only ever ridden that entire route once. Usually we skip the lake front and hang a right of Moerangi straight into a Pondy/Rollercoaster combo to head back home.

As for heading back up Direct Satan It doesn't happen often but, yeah, if I'm after some punsihment Laugh Out Loud

Indeed. Most of the time, we head back via the Lion track cos of the somewhat gentler gradient but as I said when I recommended the route, go the Pig Track if you're feeling like a masochist Big Grin
