Hey everyone!
Thought it was about time I actually registered on Vorb.
Here's a little bit about me....
I'm based in Auckland (not by choice).
I'm into jumping, hucking, downhilling etc (freeriding as it is called by some)
Get out to Woodhill quite a bit, all good after rain. Also some local spots.
Really into Freeriding Vids, just got Statement DVD, which rocks.
Got a couple of digital video camera's, would be cool to hook up with some crazy riders who are free during the day and film some decent hucks.
Love surfing, do a bit of skating, snowboarding, ice hockey and general mayhem.
Have a stylin' campervan that I travel around in with my Huskie (Tasha).

A couple of digital video cameras... mmmm... dreamy...
Do you have a helmet cam? I really really really really want to play around with a helmet cam - I reckon you could get some really styley footage (following skilled riders down a flowing/ technical singletrack.)

Altronics have a little bullet cam which looks perfect for mtb videoing, its "only" $375!!
And you need a 9v 300ma power supply as well!!
Aparently Sony make a plug in one for Sony cams(probably wont work in anyone elses camera's though!!) which will be mega bucks I bet!!

I don't have a helmet cam but I would be really keen on getting one setup.
What's the resolution on that $375 one like?
Would be cool if there were some other day-time slackers in the Auckland area keen on filming - it's kind of hard setting up the camera on the tripod for myself and then pressing record on the remote control as I ride by

I picked up a helmet cam set when I was living (and riding!!!) in the UK last year, and it works brilliantly. Still looking for an excuse to do some filming at Woodhill...... am heading out there v. early Sunday morning if you're interested?
Here's the specs on the $375 retail in NZ($290Aus)camera.
Internal regulation, requires standard 9V DC supply.
Compact , durable and fully sealed this micro bullet CCD camera is ideal for use outdoors, in humid or water logged environments. Includes swivel mounting bracket. Waterproof to 5m. Size: 22Ø x 61mm
Specifications:
Pixels: 512 x 582

Ive just had a better look around the site, and theyre having a special on another very similar camera, the only difference is the price, colour, length and this one takes a 12v power supply not a 9v,so is easier to hook up!!
Only $259 Aus $296 NZ!!

Definately are better dude, the bracket comes with the camera, might be ok for those "lets drive around the hills at warp 11 with a video camera in the car" moments!!
Ahh of course I've never done that, but Ive heard of it happening.

Just checked out the website, cheers for the info!
They look pretty cool, I'll see how Penfold's does this Sunday and think about investing.
Waterproof to 5 metres ay?
I used to work as a Dive Instructor and one day I was diving in this river, checking it out to see whether it would be a good dive spot, anyways there was a bit of a current running - which is quite fun cruising along in. I turn a corner and find a warehouse mtbike sitting on the bottom!
It had front shocks and so I picked it up and lay on the seat in a sort of superman type position and went cruising with the current, the front shorks worked wicked bouncing off all the boulders charging down the river!
It was pretty cool, wish I'd filmed it!

it is not that easy.
most pencil cams are fixed focus, fixed aparture, and have very poor ability to cope with changing ambient light. If you are filming with one, it works best in consistant forest cover or consistant open track.
as for power supply - a big stack of AA's wired up to the right plug will keep it running quite happy while you record.
Sony have an expensive sony branded unit (who knows, it might do more advanced things like auto focus etc), but I recorded onto sony-dv using an off the shelf unit like the one pictured above.
I sold my helmet cam setup - to someone who has done a lot of runs with it BUT i do have an NTSC format pencil cam, brand new, never used, that would work a treat for anyone that can record analogue ntsc on their video camera - and I'd sell it cheap cheap cheap cheap. PM me if you are inclined.
dont forget to get a pelican case or similar to protect your actual video camera when you fall - oh yes, WHEN you fall. Likelyhood of a fall is proportional to the worth of the camera.

It was classic.
LOL!, that'd be a challenging rock garden for a DH course!!
I found this site while looking into the whole Helmet Camera situation a while back. He has some good footage and some interesting advice and links on the subject; none of it's local of course.....
I'm definiately keen on hooking up with some riders who want to experiment with video...
I'm joining the Auckland riding group right now....
