Vorb has got a daily audience of thousands, and lots of tools for vaguely organising rides. Here is a guide on how to get out riding, and meet new friends.

1.) Work Out The Basics
Before you start telling people about a ride there's some basic stuff you should know:
* When is the ride?
* Where is the ride?
* Where and when should people meet?

2.) Give Ample Warning
People tend to need 2-3 days warning. The earlier you tell people, the better. Another thing to take note of is that many people don't check their e-mails or the internet outside 9-5 Monday-Friday.

3.) You'll Never Ride Alone
If you're worried about no one coming along for the ride make sure at least one of your friends will be coming along to keep you company. If you know at least one person is turning up then you won't have to worry about being "Nigel/Nigella-No-Mates." Blackmail, guilt and pleading are all good tools for making sure at least one of your friends will turn up.

4.) Post Your Ride
Click on Post A Ride and write a brief description of the ride. Remember to add all the information from step 1.
Important: Make sure your ride is added to the calendar Click Here for Help. If your ride isn't added to the calendar it will not appear on the homepage, in Upcoming Rides, or in any e-mail alerts.

5.) Message The Vorbii
Don't rely on people noticing your ride while they browsing the site - get pro-active and message people. There are two ways you can go about this:
a.) Check out the Riding Groups and send a message to any of the groups which might be interested in your ride.
b.) Search for Riders and use the search filters to limit the search by location, interests, skill, fitness or even age.

When you send a message you can click Organise Ride for a handy-dandy template. It's also a good idea to include a link to your post.

6.) Encourage People To Use The Attendance Page
Once you've posted your ride you will notice an button. If Vorbii click on this they go to the Attendance page which lets them signal the likelyhood they will come on the ride. This is very useful for working out how many people you should expect, and messaging everyone who's keen if there is a cancellation/ change of plan.

7.) Update Any Changes
If there's changes to your plans make sure you your original post. You may also want add another post letting people know you've updated the details by clicking the . If people have been using the Attendance page it's also very easy to send a message to everyone who's keen.

8.) Give A Post Ride Report
Post something to let people know how the ride went, post photos, make fun of people who piked, encourage people to attend future rides. Often you'll find the second ride you organise is far more popular than your first. People just need a boot up their bum sometimes Wink

Common Mistakes
* Vague Information: "Does anyone want to go for a ride on Saturday?" Yes, lots of people do, but until you give them a place and a time they're not going to commit.

* Not Listing In the Calendar: If your ride isn't in the calendar your relying on people visually searching the "Rides Forum".

* Not Messaging People: While thousands of people visit Vorb everyday unless they are deliberately looking for upcoming rides they're bound to miss your post. Messaging people means you're going to get a far greater response.
