Hi there,
I am coming to NZ south island for 4 months at the end of jan. I ride mostly DH / drops, jumps and general freeriding but dont mind a little bit of XC, if the decsents are nice. Im going to be around invercargil, dunedin and queenstown. Not really sure what to expect in the way of rdiing but looks like a bit of everything, epic DH local trails etc. The problem i have is which bike do i take. I have a 03 SC v10 with dorado and an 06 specialised enduro s works with dhx air and fox 36 van. The enduro will be more versatile but is going to be hard going on the big downhills. What do you guys reckon i should take for the riding over there?

Go the Enduro. We lack shuttle access in a lot of areas and you'll be cursing the V10 as you push it up hills.
The Enduro should handle pretty much everything expect maybe the large jumps on Dreamtrack - but very few people have the skills or cajones to do 70 foot gaps.
I only got the one ring up front on the enduro but i guess i can buy an e13 DRS and sort that out. thanks for info guys. although keep the opinions coming!
Looks like its the enduro which is impressing me with how mucha abuse it can take every time i ride it. I am coming over to invercargill for 3 months, and will have pretty much every weekend to ride. If any locals could show me any of the local riding that would be wicked, and im sure theres a few beers in it aswell
How long do you guys reckon the drive from invercargil to dunedin, alexandra and queenstown will take? Looking forward to coming over, see you all soon!

Budget 3 hours for Invers to Dunedin, Dunedin to Alex is 2 hours and alex to queenie is something like another hour.
That's giving you heaps of time, you could do it quicker, you could also go from Invers to Queenstown via Lumsden which is a tihsload quicker although you'll have to deal with the Devil's starircase which can be scary as kcuf and has claimed a bunch of tourists over the years.

Oh, and riding spots
- Bluff Hill which is funnily enough, in Bluff.
- Sandy Point
- There's some nifty wee tracks in Tapanui, Owaka, Balclutha and Milton (though if you're going that far, you might as well hit up Dunedin)
There's also some awesome stuff around the Catlins, though most of it you aren't allowed on your bike. Old tram tracks and the like that'll mean shouldering the bike for a bit, but it's worth it for the unexplored goodness.

there is plenty of riding in Alex that'll be suited to your Enduro

Though I tend to avoid Gore at all costs
That Catlins thing has given me an idea for an old tram track I know of, it's gonna be EPIC.
This is looking good. A 2-3 hour car ride is nothing for some good riding! I have to drive about the same to get to some medicore hill less riding around london . I guess ill be over and see some of you guys soon. Cheers for the help.
