Anyone using this set-up?

Would be really interested in your comments.... I don't believe I'll have any problems, but if anybody has suffered from;

a) set-up problems
b) head-tube cracking
c) head-tube ovalisation
d) head-tube shearing off entirely, causing grevious bodily harm and/or subsequent death...

...then I'd like to hear from you. All good news is welcomed/encouraged.

P.S. Obviously, if you did experience "d" and subsequently died, don't bother writing in.

They are not warrantied for dual crowns, but I wouldn't say they were dodgy or weak in anyway. They look nicely gusseted and have some substantial tubing. I'm tempted to whack some boxxers on mine. I've had it a year and a half so I've had a good go out of it. I'll probably just get a bigger bike though. Double Thumbs Up

Who dat? Dave? (hence "Konakid") Eh?

Anyhow, yeah it's Cam... I'm planning on running them on 6" travel, and possibly - depending on money - buy a beefier frame (Cove G-spot, Banshee Scream, Big Hit) if I get more hardcore Crazy Wink

But, I think the AC2 will be OK (famous last words Hmmmm )

Oh, and I realise that by changing the forks, I'll void the warranty. That's a choice which I'm happy to make - if you don't try you'll never know.

Anyway, when the next person who buys a Giant AC asks "can I put triple clamps on my AC2?", then I'll be able to offer them advice based on experience rather then obtuse, or subjective opinion Smile Still, I appreciate everyone taking time to give me feedback Double Thumbs Up

Hey Dr Capek, what are you riding??

2002 AC3. It's been fantastic for me, it made me want to ride more. I've broken a lot of stuff on it, but the frame is in lovely condition. I may retire it to my xc/trail bike, and buy a DH bike soon. Double Thumbs Up

i dunno, i would even risk them on 7, theres only an inch difference although my logic of once the back has bottomed you still have an inch of travel up the front like a ht may not work.... if that made sense Crazy

but i dont have a clue about the head angles but as you say only one way to find out! I'm Cool

but if you have them on 7 inch then the turning will be slower and the angles could be stuffed up to. but yea you could try. Crazy Smile Sly

dpends on what you lijke i guess, if you dont mind a slacker head angle mind slower turning, but your main goal is travel, try it?

i reckon it would be able to handle it, my bike, very similar came with triple clamps, almost the same frame design, it should be sweet in my opinion, BUT it depends on what you like

Speaking from personal experience, I would say don't do it.

A little story...

The first guy said "can I put boxxers on this?"
I said "no"
"it looks like it'll handle it!" he said
I said "no"

Two months later after fitting said forks the munter comes back in with an ovalized head tube claiming warranty

I said calmly "NO"

The second guy did the same thing with a pair on 2002 Junior T's and put a HUGE crack along the back of the downtube gusset.

If a company syas don't try it they usually have a good reason, but like Dinsy says, why do it when you know what the likely outcome will be? Eh?
