Calendar Event: December 27, 2005

Just the thing to work off all that excess christmas pudd, turkey etc!

I think theres a bunch of us up for this on the 27th (or 28th), jono, ben, onyabike others?

Its just a matter of working out car lifts etc to cut out the tedious road riding-

drop us a line if you are up for it!

Well, we'll be down that way on the afternoon of the 27th. I'll definitely have my bike with me, and a plan for some riding (count stylie is hopefully going to show me some bits). Failing that, the wakamarina would be a damned fine ride (even if I have done it recently)

Hey Joe

We did Wakamarina in a touch over four hours. That was being dropped at the start of the track, and being picked up at the end of the trail rather than having to ride the 15k? out to Cannastown.

Did you se this thread http://www.vorb.org.nz/ftopicp-649241.html#649241

Enjoy the ride. It is something special Double Thumbs Up

...and we had plenty of rest stops, plus a nice easy push up the second climb. And definitely, getting collected at the end is a lot better than riding out to canvastown - that rolly road ride sucks donkey ball chunks...

In a different thread, PedalOn wrote:
We recently had the good people at Sounds Natural providing our travel for Wakamarino & Nydia Bay at reasonable prices.

Shuttled to the start of the track at the top of the Opouri Saddle and collected by water taxi from Snapper Point.

And did you see this thread http://www.vorb.org.nz/ftopict-32860-.html

cheers for that guys- sounds natural would be one way to go- depends where everyone is coming from. I'm further down the Wairau valley, so I'd have to drive a fair way whatever.

The other way is just to car shuttle- see how many cars/bike racks we can muster between us, and where everyone is coming from- is it safe to say that canvastown is a more convenient end to meet up at? at say, 2pm on the 27th?

I won't be able to do the 27th (still on boat at 2pm), but I'll be around for a couple of days after that for other shnanigans. I'll see if I can post up something closer to the time (i.e. once I've got down there and sorted out what I'm up to with count stylie)

Have fun!

2pm would be a pretty late meeting time - still got to drive all way around to Onamalutu. Probably wouldn't be riding much before 4pm.
I'll be coming over from Nelson - so if anyone else is, we could ditch a vehicle on the way at Wakamarina end.
Wouldn't want to do those seventy-something switchbacks in the dark now.

ok - call it 11am then?

I'll be coming from mt patriarch, , so it would be ideal just to get a lift back from the other end, but otherwise I'll come round along the Renwick road if anyone round there wants a pick up?

There were only three of us who could make the ride in the end. A nice trip of 38km it was. Not too much carnage along the way either.

There was a group of riders a couple of hours in front of us - and a group of four a couple of hours behind. We never made contact, but was that anyone here?
