I wouldnt bother riding round it.

A much better mission is to ride a little ways along the North side of the lake closest to Twizel, then hang a right up a massively steep track that takes you up over the Ben Ohau range. You end up riding over a few peaks on a track through awesome high country tussock, then doing an epic, eye watering, high speed 20 -30 minute descent back towards Twizel.

Its great, a bunch of us did it on Jan 1st 2 years ago. Double Thumbs Up

Which way are you going around the lake?

...and are you going further north than the lake which is why you're trying to cross both rivers?

...otherwise just cross on the east side of the Hopkins at Glen Lyon station.

Honestly - I wouldn't bother.
There's much better riding to be found up in the hills around Ohau... let alone what you'll find through out the rest of the McKenzie country.
