I hear Charlene on checkout 3 is worth a ride...

Sorry.

It's not really known as a MTB mecca - but fortunately you're not to far away from a couple of other great riding areas.

Naseby is good. I was there today and it is really fun in the pouring rain with a 42:16 singlespeed. I the morning the trails were dry and they were great but come lunchtime it was more like an ice skating rink.

Thanks for the interesting replies Big Grin
Danseys pass rd looks good too for extended climbs, which I'm in to. Most of my racing is done on ridiculously steep, long hills. Anyone doing the Gutbuster in a few weeks??

have to agree with everyone

Oamaru is a good staging area for a heap of good riding country.

If you are settling for any period of time, hook up with a council park guy or gal and see what can be done with local trails Right-Arrow but she be pretty flat out there...

Some nice freeriding on the cape apparently, but what's at Waimate? Mt Studholme right by there has a road up to the TV at over a 1000m, pity about the locked gate, would still be good for your hillclimbing thingy.

I went for a ride there a couple of weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised. But the trails are very short and not everything is finished yet.

Not really enough to be considered an xc ride. But worth a look if you are in Oamaru.
