I am currently running Grimeca system 12 hydro brakes and have the DH version which has the extra large brake fluid reservoir.

I keep knocking and bashing the reservoir so want to get a system 8 type reservoir.

Is it possible to run system 12 calipers but use system 8 levers?

Will I get the same performance from the brakes?

Cheers

Shelley

The XSIV's which are Sys12 Grimecas are sold here with Sys8 levers, work fine, I have a pair and they rock, there may be some marginal improvement with the remote reservoir Sys12 levers, but I dare say the volume of the master cylinder is the same and would be the place to get improvements.

So yeah, go with the Sys8 levers Smile

Got me some system 8 levers at lunch time.
They are both secondhand but the righthand lever has got some of the paint or what ever it is coated in, coming off.

Is it possible to paint them or touch them up?
I know it won't affect the performance of the lever, it just dones't look the best?

Ahhh yes, the traumas of DOT fluid, it EATS paint like nothing on earth, you should be able to touch them up okay, just be careful when filling the fluid, not to spill on the paint Smile

Any suggestions as to what type of paint to use to touh them up?
I am very finatical (don't know how that word is spelt) about my bike and like everything to be perfect.
Would they need to be primed as well ie lightly sanded ect?

You can get special brake caliper paint, boy racers use it, has to be high temperature rated which is not needed... any enamel should work a treat, sand it back a bit so it has a rough surface to adhere to and spray / brush it on Smile

Yep, any autoparts store should have some, usually it's just a can of high temp enamel, I'd just get a normal enamel if it's too expensive Smile

Engine enamel is best, cos its shiny unlike exhaust paint or boiler/stove paint!! Crazy
Its also chemical resistant,I painted the fuel tank of one of my moto's with if and petrol doesnt eat it,and if NZ petrol(which is mostly paint thinners anyway!!)wont eat it not much will!! Big Grin

Look at Ritchie Goldsbury, ride dodgy bikes get's respect (may have something do do with his spectating ability **I was luckly enuff to be present around some of his award winning spectator acheivements along side Fraser, I must say he is that pinnacle to which all mountainbike (XC & DH) spectators should aspire towards.

Be at oneness with your scummy looking bike, it will look the biss

Slackboy, I think you're got the wrong person or idea's....

Unfortunately for me, I have been brought up in such a manor that I respect and care for things that I have worked hard for and paid alot of money for.

Unlike some people, I don't get things handed to me on a golden platter!

I paid alot of money for my bike and I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't get damaged or look tihs and when the times comes to sell it, I may even get descent money for it.

If you don't give a tihs about the condition of your bike and you have an image to up hold of being a hardcore DHer with a trashed bike, then that's your doing but let me treat my bike how I feel fit and not just or the "image".

I like my stuff to look nice too, don't really care what anyone thinks of my riding because of this, but part of the fun for me is having a nice looking bike, nothing wrong with that Double Thumbs Up
