Waiterere forest has had a fair bit of logging recently (I went up a couple of months ago and half of it was gone).
The tracks to the east of Levin are OK but basically downhill single tracks and you get to ride up the gravel road a few times. Pretty well marked, but some dangerous jumps and drops made by the local kids last time I was there.
There are some unmarked gems on the backside of the hill if you want to go exploring, or chat up a local. Hard to describe though.
Nothing to get too excited about. You might head up to Wanganui to the forest there, but I haven't been up presonally. Some riding around Palmy too.
