We've dived into the issue of special awards for Maori and Polynesion. Scholarships that are awared to "best Maori student" or stuff like that. Then, the argument has progressed to quota places - apparantly there are places specifically for Maori at Med School etc. Anyway, I'm losing the battle fast ... becasue I don't really know the issue well enough. They (the two fighting the white fight) have said its totally unfair and disadvantages white people ... and that they'd never be allowed to put forward an award for "best European in class" or something. While it sounds logical while they are saying it ... something in it is not ringing true about it all . I don't understand enough about how the system works, and how and why these awards were put in place. I'm thinking along the lines of celebrating culture, and its probably related to the treaty ... but I don't really know how it all came about and why. What I do know is that for some reason it sitting badly with me . Any opinions? (silly question!).

its too late. We've been there for hours now ... and the house is getting very tense! With this last issue arising (the only one I haven't been able to win hands down yet) - we've all departed safely to various rooms in the house to cool off. I'm googling like crazy, looking for Medical Journal articles around demographics etc - the teenager is off to bed, and my man is still wanting an apology for my finger waving! Blush

But what about all this funding for roading?
It's discriminating against invalids and others who are unable to use them.

And the millions going nto health?
Discrimination against healthy people, that is.

I guess you have to give up on trying to be "right" and let other people win something and/or retain their own point of view.

Are you trying to win control of their opinions or something?

Sounds like it, if things have got to the point where everyones that kcufed off.

You should apologise to them and cook a huge dinner to say you're sorry.
