from my limited personal experience, i found that i entered a world of hurt using clip.
this was probable due to the fact im a munter rider Blush , but still, i personally prefer flats Double Thumbs Up

i love flats - but last weekend after a silly slip my shin shouted, "clips."
but we all make mistakes and there are many times i think - i'm sooo pleased i'm not clipped in.

I was using flats and now i have changed to clips again. I like the clips on my bike. I find the clips easier to pedal and move the bike around under me!!!

I would say if you find a cheap pair buy them and just try them out..

Are you on a HT or softtail (fully) bike ?

go for clips if you are racing dh and stuff but if you are doing a bit of dirt jumping aswell you proberly do stuff like no footers and all the works so flats would be the way to go
