HUGE THANKS to Sara Macdonald who has organised and run our Monday night girls rides for 2005. We started off in the depths of winter and the numbers have grown to over 50 girls on Sara’s email list. We regularly meet at 5.30pm outside R&R (that’s us blocking the footpath!!) and ride from anywhere between 1.5 and 2.5 hours with lots of breaks and chats in between.

The rides are designed for all levels and sometimes the group splits in two with a leader for each depending on who turns up on the day. Some of our most popular rides are Karetai track, Waitati loop, Forrester Park, Bethunes Gully and Frasers Gully (of course we stay off the footpaths....). Many of the girls have really developed from reluctantly going on the downhill sections to loving the challenge and pushing themselves harder every week. We've learnt some great tips and techniques thanks to our super duper riders - Anja, Sheryl, Erin and Sara.

If you'd like to hook up with the girls group, just turn up outside R&R Sport Dunedin at 5.30pm (lower Stuart Street) on Monday nights, or email Miff on rrmiff[at]clear.net.nz, we'd love to have more.

Hi,

It has been a few weeks since I have managed to put together an email......but good things take time and I am stoked to tell you all about the following exciting events.....

We will be spending a short amount of time at the beginning on the next two Monday Night Rides going over some on-road skills to ensure that we can all ride safely in a bunch then it will be off to either Bethunes or Signal Hill to enjoy the rest of the ride.

Cycle maintenance courses
are confirmed. R&R have offered the mechanic and the workshop. Dates for these are;

21st November 5.30pm
28th November 5.30pm
5th December 5.30pm

We need to confirm numbers for these courses. We have room for 10 women per course so you need to get back to me asap if you wish to learn how to:
* Impress the boys and change a tyre without needing tyre levers
* Check and change brake pads
* Ten minute bike wonderwash
* Knowing when to take your bike to the professionals
* Essential gear for stress free riding

Gold coin donation for some wine and cheese.

Off-road skills

21st November 5.30pm,
28th November 5.30pm,
5th December 5.30pm.

This will focus on

* Cornering
* Looking ahead
* Body positioning, balance, when climbing/descending
* Dealing with thick gravel
* Dealing with obstacles – Jumps, steps, drops
* Tricks – skids, bunny hopping, static balancing
* Venue is Forrester Park but still meet outside R&R.

We welcome your feedback...good, bad or otherwise.

And a big thank you for all your support. It has been so awesome to see such huge numbers turning up every Monday night. Long may it continue.
