which rims do u recommend?
i ride lots of urban and DH and the speedDiscs that came on my stealth are screwed
and need a strong rim that is quite wide to make big tires... Double Thumbs Up
looking at Alex dm24s.
also the mavic 321.
or anything else-still open to suggestions

weight? strength? cost? width? all that sort of stuff

I presume the mavics are second hand, cause I think they are called something else now (someone else should beable to tell you this..)

anyway I believe the 321 are freeride rims.

The DM24s are more trail rims or maybe DJ ones if you are smooth.

if the 321s are the ones i'm thinking of i'd go with them.

yup 321 is now from memory 729 and 521 is now 721 i think

anyways go mavic they are great, i've had them in various models on various bikes and they go well although more of a 521 (now 721, was originally 121) fan

Mavic 321/729 or 521/721 are both good, I prefer the 521 cos it has stiffer sides which don't dent as easily but they don't hold some tyres well and they blow off, the 321 is strong but tends to dent/crack easily. 521 is also a bit lighter and both are fairly cheap <150 bucks

the best cheap rim is the dmr DV ( ~70 bucks), very cheap and very strong but a little heavy.

sun make some good rims too, like the double track and MTX, but stay away from the singletrack at all costs!!

those are about the only rims I can really commment on but there are a few other ones you could look into like the new DT's

Atomlab DHR's are quite popular in Chch at the moment.
The '05 versions are supposed to be hot!

I've dented my front one... but that was running 15 psi and slamming into a rock off a drop (yeah - probably not a good idea to let me ride your bike by the way).

Does it still have terrible steep geometry and a fork that dives as soon as you look at it? Eh?

I've had two DM24's One in 26inch and one in 24nch. Both have held up really well, cheap, probably heavy, but then they're built up as strong as they could be. Rear is about three years old and has a few flattish spots. 321's are popular, and they look nice! Like someone will say, the build is important, strong spokes, good wheelbuilder and an appropriate rim.

I have a DV rear wheel. Its pretty mint but you can sortof feel the weight in the back compared to the stock rims. Very strong though.
