Recently there has been sightings of offroad motorcyclists illegally using Signal Hill as a playground (both on the 4WD tracks and the single tracks). I urge all Dunedin and visiting VORBers to take caution in/around the Signal Hill MTB Reserve if they happen to hear/see motorbikes operating in this area.

An email message from Jess Townshend - Community Advisor - Recreation, DCC - follows:

Hi all,

Been told that a couple of motorcylists have taken to enjoying the mountainbike single tracks on Signal Hill. Not good. Best course of action if you do come across them (hopefully not on a blind corner somewhere...) is to ring the local police station in North East Valley - phone 473-0730. They may well be able to react fast enough to track them down, calling 111 probably not worth it, unless something drastic has occured.

Thanks, please pass this on through your networks as you see fit

they thought i was joking.

Hmm, Just realised that I probably should of posted this as a news story - Can a kind mod fix if possible (and feasible).

Fraserb-> A collision between a Cyclist and a motorbike would not be a pretty thing to have to deal with - which is kind of why I'm posting this up. Hopefully they somehow see this and get it into their head that maybe they should go else where before they end up in trouble (chances are there will be an accident or a very near miss first though Sad).

We might just keep *bumping* this topic. Perhaps you could send it out to the Dunners Riders group too (since you are supposed to be in charge of the group Vinnie!).

We'll leave the Drop In 3 article on the homepage as the leading news article for now Smile

What bit where they going up? Stupid munters, I mean Oropi is clearly signposted as a Mountain bike area, I'm sure Signal Hill is too.

Surprisingly not so much. It's got the usual council sign with the park name and the symbols on it (no shooting, no motor bikes, walkers, mtb'ers, dogs allowed etc...) and on the tracks sign there is something that says no motorbikes, but unless you really go looking for them you can't really see/find them.

I'm sure they've been told on numerous occasions by passing mtb'ers that they shouldn't be riding there.
