Hook up with the Chch mailing list!
Dunno when shuttling is happening next...
We're all gearing up for TC at the moment.
Chris, Ben and Lee are away...
But after Boxxing Day I'll be keen as to hit the tracks and try my new pedals, tyres, gears etc.

i went on a 6-day trip a few weeks ago and we based outselves in clyde. It depends on what type of riding you want to do, and how far you want to travel to do it...
like everyone says, Alex has some good tracks (check out mtb heaven in the kennet bros book). If you just want a casual jaunt down by the river there is a trail going from Clyde to Alex (use it to join up with mtb heaven) which is 30-40 mins each way.
Naseby forest is about an hour away - but I would advise hooking up with someone who knows the area - we were lucky enough to and he showed us the best tracks - we probably wouldn't have even ventured off the 4wd track on our own (and still would have gotten lost!).
For an epic, try old man range - you'll see the obelisk from clyde (massive rock next to a pylon). Probably best not to go alone given the alpine conditions (snowed and hailed on us), but 4 hrs up = a long way down )
Queenstown is also only about an hour away and has some awesome heli-skiing. If you're there at 8.30am you can ride the gondola up and do the custom built dh track which is loads of fun (even without a front brake ). Another epic there is skippers canyon, then there's macetown.
There's plenty of riding down there, but as I say, depends what you're after and how far you want to travel...
cheers i'll prob have a go round clyde, although luggin my bike up hills in c otago heat doesnt sound all that fun so i'll prob sit in pub watchin cricket!!
