The first suggestion I would make is to head out to mt vic and ride round and round in circles - there are a ton of tracks up there, and you can usually count on most of the ones that go "straight down" the hill will be steep and free-ridey (and have a shallow climb back up to the top).
In terms of jumps, most of them have been demolished by the council over the last 2 months or so - there is a very nice wooden jump on the rollercoaster's evil twin (the downhill/right hand one) (nice if you hit it at about 40km/h, not so nice if you hit it at 20km/h, downright scarey (in a clear the transition and land on the flat on your front wheel kind of way) if you hit it at 50km/h (as I found out 2 months ago).
There are also a couple of nice drop/jump/transition things on backdoor, but as mr face suggested, if you head out with the saturday digging parties (there is one this saturday) in long gully, you'll find all the nice goodness that is up there...

There is one up at the new Aotea block, behind the police college. Not that it is close to Te Aro or anything, but it is not as good as Long Gully, but better than Maidstone, with North Shore stuff and a road gap, along with some fast bumpy as hell sections.

Yep - maidstone has had a lot of work done on it over the last couple of months - I haven't been to see what it has turned out like, but it's a lot more DH focussed now than it was.
You could always check out the Welly MTB club race up there on the [7th] of november...there should be entry forms around here somewhere for it...
Most free-ridey track on mt vic? I guess that damiens track would qualify - it's got a log-ride section in it, although I haven't been down there in months to see what it's like (it's damned slippery in winter...)

I only stumbled across it by accident one day, and there were a few ways to go down. I preferred it at the time ( which was before we had that big storm) to Maidstone. We could be talking about a completely different track! There are a bunch of dudes working on it constantly, I am told.
I went to Maidstone a couple of weeks ago and didn't really enjoy it that much, I found it not to be very flowy or fast, if you catch my drift. Could have been I wasn't really that into it on the day though. After riding Long Gully everything else seems to be less fun for some reason!
The track up Aotea I found to be much faster which is what I like, as opposed to jumps, which I am yet to master enough to enjoy.
Since you live out this way, I will show you some other stuff one day, when it is finished!
